Vital Ice STEM Kit

Looking for ways to get real scientific data into the hands of your students? Do you need a hands-on STEM activity that is place-based and culturally-relevant? The Vital Ice STEM kit has model ice cores that let your students explore real data collected in Denali National Park. The kits are largely self-guided and work well for both middle and high school students. The kits cover permafrost and glacial ice cores and can fill two hours of class time. The classroom set contains 15 individual kits to allow pairs of students to work together.

Kit Features:

  • Cultural context
  • Innovative permafrost and ice core experiments
  • Graphing
  • National Park science based on long-term monitoring of glaciers and permafrost in Alaska parks
  • Data analysis
  • Science Notebooks

Kits are available now for one-week loans. There is no charge. To borrow the set of kits, please contact: Stacia Backensto stacia_backensto@nps.gov 907.455.0669
